George Raveling reflects on participating in 1963 March on Washington and owning the 'I Have a Dream' speech

George Raveling

One of the more challenging features I edited and produced. We only had a phone interview with Coach Raveling so the trick was to make a compelling story with no on camera interview. I think the end product really came out will even with the limitations I had. This feature is about Hall of Famer and former Washington State and USC men's basketball head coach George Raveling reflects on his participation in the 1963 March on Washington in which he served as a volunteer security guard for all speakers at the podium that day, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. Raveling, the first African American men's basketball coach in Pac-12 history, tells the story of how he came to possess one of the most famous speeches in American history.
